There's an old saying in the Travel Industry that comments on Travel Insurance.... "Travel Insurance is not compulsory but it is a necessity". We subscribe to this view. Thousands of travellers each year plan or take expensive trips without ever taking the inexpensive cover of a quality Travel Insurance scheme. In Australia, strict rules and regulations govern the sale and advertising of travel insurance policies. Providing you stick with reputable brands you can't really go wrong. But, to be safer you have to insure. We sell nothing on this site but we do permit you to go direct to one reputable Travel Insurance Company to make online purchases. We do this because we believe Travel Insurance is as important as the means of reaching your travel destination and the holiday itself! So many things can and do go wrong for the traveller, even the best laid plans go astray. For example; Scenario One: A group plans to travel to a venue at a certain date. They've chosen non-refundable internet fares and have also purchased accommodation. Annual leave is planned, everything is organised and then out of the blue a sudden sickness in one of the group members means that that person cannot fly and neither can their partner and children! Loss of airfares, loss of accommodation deposits, car hire gone! ONE person's illness ruins the holiday for the whole group and everyone loses money! Scenario Two: A man and wife travel to South East Asia for a short break. While on holiday the man stumbles and twists his ankle. The whole holiday is ruined. Expensive medical bills add up and the couple are forced to fly home early, leaving their holiday accommodation paid for but not being able to use it! The whole holiday is wasted. Thousands of dollars lost and never recovered. Scenario Three: A person travels to the USA for a quick vacation. While in the US she falls and cuts her leg on a pavement. Thinking nothing of it, she goes back to her hotel room thinking all is well (apart from a few bruises and a "scratch"). By mid-afternoon the next day her knee has swollen and she knows she must seek medical attention. She is admitted to a hospital and as a precaution, she is admitted overnight for observation. An antibiotic drip is used and various medications are administered. X-rays, scans and further medical diagnosis results in a lengthy stay in hospital. The total medical expenses bill comes to approximately $23,000.
Now in situations similar to those above, Travel Insurance can make a big difference. It's incidents like those mentioned that mean we fully recommend you talk to a travel agent about Travel Insurance before you travel. Alternatively, you can book travel insurance online here. In Australia, any travel agent selling travel insurance must be fully trained and must have passed quite rigorous examinations before they can provide you with advice or sell you travel insurance. If you wish to take advice then we recommend you go to Australian Discount Travel & Tours, because their travel consultants are qualified to sell you travel insurance.
