Melbourne by Balloon!

Melbourne by Balloon. A Different Melbourne Experience the first moments of daylight from a balloon gently floating right over the city. All the familiar sights look completely new. You can see the Fitzroy Gardens laid out like a Union Jack, the trees on top of the Casino, peek into the backyard of Government house - or our neighbours! Crikey - she shouldn't be waving to us dressed like that. The ever-changing cityscape pass by gently under your feet. The patterns of the roads and train lines, the green spaces and the roof tops, the industrial yards and Port Philip Bay to the west - all make a kaleidoscope of shapes and colour in the dawn light. Every Melbourne by Balloon flight is different - you can fly every day of the year and it is never the same. The wind takes you on a different path, the clouds and the sun mingle in a light show, the seasons change and the city itself changes. The heart of Melbourne itself drifts by below you in the dawn light - the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Botanical Gardens around historic Government House, the Yarra River as it weaves through the city, the Arts Centre with its spire and the Westgate Bridge. Then after a champagne breakfast to bring you back to earth and a chat with your daring pilot you are free even to get to work or back to your hotel in time for a day's sightseeing on the ground.

Hanging Rock Reserve - Unsolved Mystique & Mystery!

The mysterious Hanging Rock is located in a rural setting 1 hour north east of Melbourne. The rock is better known as the backdrop to Joan Lindsay's novel "Picnic at Hanging Rock" which highlighted the Rock's aura of mystery by portraying the disappearance of a group of schoolgirls in the early 1900's. Today the Reserve offers visitors a wide range of activities including several walks, barbeques & picnic areas, a cafe and a new Discovery Centre. Visitors who climb to the top of the rock will be rewarded with a magnificent view stretching from Mt Macedon in the south to the Cobaw Ranges in the north. GEOLOGY: The Rock itself is a small steep sided volcano known as a memmalon which formed six million years ago over a vent in the earth and now rises 105m from the surrounding plain. FLORA AND FAUNA: Nearly one hundred indigenous plants can be found at the Hanging Rock Reserve. The reserve is also home to koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and many species of birds. EVENTS: Hanging Rock hosts a number of major events each year such as the Hanging Rock New Year's Races, Harvest Picnic, the screening of "Picnic at Hanging Rock" and the Macedon Ranges Vintage Car Rally.
