Cascade Brewery

The most famous facade in Hobart is that of the Cascade Brewery, standing alone with Mount Wellington looming behind it. The brewery established by Peter Degraves in 1824 is the oldest operational Brewery in Australia. The Brewery is still producing premium beer from Tasmanian hops, barley and pure water collected from further up Mount Wellington. After watching some of the country's finest beers being produced in this historic plant, the tour then takes you through our heritage listed cottage gardens and finishes in Woodstock Homestead. The 1 1/2 hour tour is wrapped up with an opportunity to relax and taste 3 different Cascade beers or try one of our Traditional soft drinks. The retail shop and gardens are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 4 pm (including public holidays). Tours operate Monday to Friday at 9.30 am, 10.00 am, 1.00 pm and 1.30 pm. Bookings are essential. Safety Requirements: As Cascade Brewery is a fully operational worksite safety is a major priority. Visitors must wear flat, fully enclosed shoes. Full length pants are required - not shorts or skirts. The Brewery has 200 or so stairs so it is not suitable for somebody who is scared of heights, has walking problems or uses a walking aid. Due to the safety requirements of the tour, it is not suitable for children under the age of 5 years.
