Melt in the mouth is no longer a cliché when you stop at the House of Anvers. Igor Van Gerwen and his staff hand-make chocolate truffles, chocolate oranges, fudge and praline using fresh cream and pure butter from Tasmania, the world's best chocolate and liqueurs, and the know-how acquired in his birthplace, Belgium, lauded throughout Europe for its fine chocolate. A selection box of truffles include flavours such as kirsch, strawberry and Grand Marnier. Flavours that would dominate others, such as ginger and mint, are packed by themselves. A terrific, light gift to take home that's truly Tasmanian, despite its European antecedents. The 'House of Anvers' is a real chocolate taste sensation and is located in the property known as 'Wyndarra Lodge', a stylish house which was built in 1931 and which is set in 1.12 hectares of old tree gardens. The Californian bungalow style house incorporates a long Austrian style roofline, gargoyles on the rooftop and the most beautiful stained glass windows. The gardens are very much eclectic as well, featuring trees from all around the world. Anvers has viewing windows installed for visitors to see the factory in action. People will see our qualified confectionery staff tempering, moulding and enrobing fine coverture chocolates, truffles, pralines, fudge and more. Also a small museum on the history of chocolate is incorporated to add to the excitement. Our coffee shop (open fire place, stained glass windows) specialises in chocolates, hot cocoa in many flavours, chocolate desserts and...more chocolate. French breakfast and light Tasmanian fare lunches will be served and a range of teas and espresso coffees for the morning and afternoon break. Anvers also have a confectionary shop in Devonport We
